Arunachala is the name of a sacred mountain located in Tiruvannamalai, about 185 km from Chennai, India. Ramana Maharishi was installed there in 1896 at the age of 17 years, and after a mystical experience remained there until his death. His followers built an ashram in Villupuram, at the foot of the mountain.
